This is a scriptable remote control I hacked out.  I created codes for my Emerson VCR and Magnavox TV.  I think there are a few other codes here too - maybe some Sony codes and Emerson TV codes.  Anyway, I don't remember but the package has been sitting on my drive for some time.  I'll also upload the source so anyone can expand it and add other codes.

If you don't recognize your VCR/TV mentioned above, you may not want to download this.  I did a sort of scripting thing.  You can assign a script to a set of buttons.  The scripting is a little like modem strings.  So, "V+ C23" might mean, "Up the volume and switch to channel 23."  It uses the infrared thing on the Newton if you haven't guessed.
